Bringing Down Healthcare Costs

Access to affordable healthcare is a basic human right. During my eight years in the Maine House I served as co-chair of  the Health Coverage, Insurance, and Financial Services Committee for 2 terms.  I worked to reduce the price of insulin and other drugs, hearing aids, and prostheses, and in 2022, helped to create a state-based marketplace where Obamacare plans can be easily compared. But Federal actions have rolled back some of this progress — access has decreased and costs have gone way up.  I am hopeful that our next Governor will work to create a regional public option plan that will help keep Mainers covered affordably. Long waits to see a physician, even family medicine doctors, let alone specialists are another problem for which we need to find solutions.
