Fighting to Make Maine Affordable for Working Families

Large increases in the cost of living have hurt many people in our communities. Four of my five adult children live in Maine so I am acutely aware of the problems we face keeping young people in our state. This past Legislature I voted for and co-sponsored bills to address housing costs and shortages, childcare subsidies for families and providers, and working waterfront protections for our fishing families.

In addition, I supported maintaining state aid to schools at 55%, revenue sharing at 5%; both of which help towns keep property taxes from rising too quickly.  The millionaires’ tax on income over one million dollars will help keep state income taxes down for working families. I sponsored a bill to help bring down electricity bills for some Maine consumers. But clearly more needs to be done!  If you send me back to Augusta, I will continue to work to make life affordable in Maine.
